Sheldon joined Acorn House in September 2007. He graduated from Cambridge University and has a particular interest and a GP Certificate in ophthalmology. He is involved with the British Small Animal Veterinary Association both locally and nationally. He is a member of the British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmology. Sheldon enjoys travel, skiing and hill walking.

Katharine has been working for us since her graduation from Cambridge in 2003 and was recognised by the RCVS as an Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in 2017. Her post-graduate qualifications include the GP Certificate in small animal medicine (2007), an MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour from Lincoln University (2017) and the Postgraduate Certificate in small animal surgery (2018). Katharine sits on the Canine Advisory Behavioural Panel and has had surgical case reports published in both the Companion journal of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and the Veterinary Times. Katharine's surgery certificate allows the practice to offer our clients an expanded range of surgeries that might otherwise have required referral to a specialist centre, including Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) to treat cruciate ligament disease. She has past experience working for dedicated veterinary emergency centres in Luton and Milton Keynes, and has even been known to say that she enjoys the adrenaline rush of a genuine emergency in the middle of the night! Katharine lives locally with her husband and two sons and feels particularly lucky to have been seeing some of the same clients and patients for many years.

Heidrun graduated in Berlin, Germany in 1989. Heidrun enjoys riding her horses and walking her terrier. Heidrun has a particular interest in orthopaedic problems in dogs and cats - repairing fractures and treating cruciate ligament disease.

Gaynor joined the practice in 2002. Gaynor is responsible for the day to day running of the surgery. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, riding her horse, walking her dogs and cycling all over Bedfordshire.

Rosie started working for the practice after graduation from Cambridge in 1998. Rosie enjoys all aspects of small animal veterinary work and has some very good relationships with her many longstanding patients and clients. Rosie is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education, and is responsible for managing the educational experience that Acorn House offers to veterinary students visiting the practice to observe our work.

Jennifer graduated and completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Veterinary School of Nantes, France, in 2010, followed by another year as a Junior Clinician in the Emergency and Critical Care Department. She followed her husband to the UK in 2011 and elected to stay as both believed the UK is a great country to grow as a vet. She spent 7 years in a busy Tier 3 Veterinary Hospital in Cambridge before joining Acorn House Vets in October 2018. Jennifer always wanted to become a vet and enjoys every aspect of her job. Her main interest are Medicine, Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care. She particularly enjoys caring for hospitalised patients and continuously pursues excellence in their care. After 3 years studying, she passed her BSAVA Post Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in 2017. She has a young son keeping her busy and is the humble servant of a lovely cat called Izzy. When not at work, she enjoys running, hiking, riding her motorbike and cooking. " I feel particularly lucky to be part of a team motivated by the genuine desire to make a difference in your pet's quality of life"

Sarah graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in June 2016, and joined the practice straight away. She enjoys all aspects of Veterinary Medicine, but has a keen interest in working with exotics pets and has extra experience in the husbandry and care of many species. She will be starting a certificate in Exotic Animal Practice in January 2019.

Kim graduated from Bristol in summer 2018 and started working at Acorn House as soon as possible. She enjoys working with our lovely clients and their pets. Originally from the North-East, Kim enjoys exploring and getting to know the area in her spare time.

Nadia studied for her BSc Hons in Physiotherapy and qualified in 2006. Nadia worked in the NHS for 10 years before deciding to further her studies in the animal sector became a Category A member of ACPAT in June 2015. Having spent the last year completing research in canine kinematics Nadia has extended her knowledge further whilst continuing to develop her veterinary physiotherapy skills.

Kerry passed her RCVS examinations in July 2000. She has worked at Acorn House since August 2001. Kerry is one of our assessors responsible for student nurse training. Kerry passed the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical) in 2007. Kerry has a pony called Elkie

Sharon is our longest serving member of staff having joined the practice in April 1993. She is one of our training assessors and has a keen interest in nursing clinics and dental care. Sharon has a cat that she rescued from the surgery.

Jo has been employed at Acorn House since May 2006, when she moved from Kent to Bedford. She qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2003 and acheived her assessor award in 2004. Jo has 2 cats, rescued from the surgery. She enjoys horse riding and mountain biking. Jo has undertaken further training in animal behaviour.

Jo has worked for the practice since August 1997; she qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2005. Jo consults in our nurse clinics, assists with surgery and anaesthesia, helps out on reception, and co-ordinates our pet photo shoots at the surgery.

Jessica joined us in September 2014, previously attending Hartpury College where she obtained a National Diploma in Equine management. Jessica although not having her own horse at present, enjoys horse riding, running and walking her dog Ozzie. Ozzie had not had an easy start in life, so Jess has gained a lot of experience in retraining and rehabilitation through the work she has been doing with him. Jessica qualified in 2018

Naomi started working at Acorn in April 2017 and qualified in 2018. Naomi has a husky named Sky and enjoys horse riding in her spare time.

Kelly qualified in 2002 and worked in a practice in Milton Keynes for 5 years before joining us in 2011. She has a soft spot for bunnies, but loves any little fluffy creatures. Kelly enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing, but is particularly involved with our nurse-led clinics.

Rachel joined us in 2015. She spent two years studying for a national diploma in animal management and obtained straight distinctions! Rachel then went on to to complete a 4 year degree at Edinburgh Napier University. She has 3 rescue cats called Bella, Lucy and Daisy.

Carla qualified in 2015 and joined the Acorn House team in November 2016. Carla owns a black cat called Sapphire that has an attitude problem! In her spare time she enjoys walking, camping and painting.

I am originally from Spalding, Lincolnshire and moved to Harlow to complete my nursing . I started working in Harlow, Essex as a trainee veterinary nurse and worked there for 5 years until I completed my L3 diploma in veterinary nursing in August 2017. I completed all aspects of Anesthesia and also Nursing Care and sometimes worked independently as a qualified nurse. I decided to complete my first aid at work certificate in August 2017. I moved to Bedford to further my career and I am enjoying all aspects of nursing and care. I thoroughly enjoy anaesthesia and radiography. In my spare time I love to go on adventures with my partner on the motorbike and go to shows and exhibitions.

Claire originally qualified as a veterinary nurse with us in 2005 she then went on to travel and work at another practice. She came back to Acorn in 2014 and now works as a veterinary nurse and is our health plan co-ordinator.

Sophie joined us in July 2016. She completed a level 2 Diploma in Animal Management at Shuttleworth College ant then went on to complete a year studying animal behaviour at Anglia Ruskin. Sophie has two cocker spaniels Tia & Poppy, who she enjoys walking in her spare time.

Lauren started her training with us after finishing her A-Levels in Biology, English and Art. When she is not working, Lauren enjoys horse riding, although she doesn't have a horse of her own, and walking her rescue dog, Hank, a Collie x Pointer. Lauren also spends lots of her time drawing portraits, mostly of horses and dogs.

Ellie started working at Acorn in May 2017. She previously studied Animal Management at Shuttleworth College levels 2 & 3 completing them both with distinction. Ellie lives at home with her two labradors, Max & Delilah as well as two cats, Mia & Leo. Ellie has previously owned a rescued micro pig called Bella and a Barn owl called Ivy.

Rachel joined us in March 2018 having previously worked at a veterinary referral practice as a Kennel Assistant. She has 2 cats, a chilled black and white cat called phoebe and an extremely "Naughty Tortie" called Tallulah. In her spare time Rachel enjoys spending time with friends and family and travelling.

I recently worked in a GP surgery doing clinical care, I have 15 rescue dogs in Spain and two at home, one which is Spanish. I am currently working as a kennel assistant which I enjoy as I get to spend a lot of one to one time with the animals especially within recovery. After my role of being a kennel assistant, I would like to pursue veterinary nursing as I have always wanted to care for animals. I enjoy going to the gym and would love to travel the world one day.

I own two horses, two dogs and a cat. I love spending time with the animals that come here at Acorn House and I do spend a lot of one to one time with each animal to make them feel safe and comfortable whilst recovering. I eventually want to become a veterinary nurse after pursuing my role of a kennel assistant. In my spare time I enjoy riding my horses and taking my dogs on a long walk on a nice chilled evening.

Paul returned to work with us in July 2011. Paul trained and qualified with Acorn House some years ago and went on to become a College Lecturer teaching Veterinary Nursing Students. Paul returned to the practice and after a long nursing career he is now our Deputy Practice Manager

Karen is our second most long standing member of staff having arrived from Ireland in Sept 1993. Karen is responsible for ordering the stock for the practice and managing our dispensary.

Michelle originally joined the practice as a trainee nurse in 1991. After maternity leave, Michelle joined the customer care team. She is renowned within the practice for her encyclopaedic knowledge of pets and their owners! Michelle has now joined our Practice Administration Team.

Tracie joined the practice in November 2014 with almost 20 years of customer care management experience under her belt. Tracie owns two Jack Russells called Bridget and Alfie and also get a lot of pleasure from her tropical fish tank. In her spare time Tracie likes to go to London to visit her son and to go shopping and sightseeing.

Amanda has been a receptionist for over 20 years and started working in a hospital. She has moved from people to pets and joined us in 2015. Her hobbies are walking two dogs and wine tasting.

Clare joined the team in 2013 after running her own pet care business. Clare shares her home with her cat Harvey, she is a member of a community choir and loves spending time with her family. Clare is working for us part time whilst studying for a degree in history.

Annette has been a veterinary receptionist since 1998. She joined Acorn House in 2012 then left 2 years later, to move to Bristol. After having her son, her family moved back to the area and was reunited with the Acorn House team in October 2017.
